Who doesn’t love a good grilled cheese sandwich? I have to admit it’s one of my favorite foods to eat. It’s that perfect comfort food that is also easy to make. Historians say that cooked bread and cheese is an ancient food enjoyed across the world. The modern version of the grilled cheese originated in the U.S. in the 1920s when inexpensive bread and American cheese was easily available. Most restaurants have some version of a grilled cheese sandwich on their menu, or I’m sure you could get your favorite spot to make one. According to WZZM 13 here are some of the best places in West Michigan to find a grilled cheese sandwich.
Founder’s Brewery – Grand Rapids
They have a grilled cheese sandwich called the “Cheesy Does It.” You can choose any two of nine kinds of cheese, plus cream cheese, grilled on multigrain wheat.
Crow’s Nest – Kalamazoo
They serve the “Super Grilled Cheese.” The regular sandwich comes with cheddar, swiss and smoked provolone cheese on sourdough bread.
For just $1 more, you can add pesto, tomatoes, bacon, ham, prosciutto, avocado, pulled pork or fried egg.
Hopcat – Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo
Their Madtown grilled cheese is a trio of Wisconsin dill Havarti, smoked Gouda & Muenster on grilled Italian sourdough with apple slices, garlic aioli & honey. Served with a cup of apple-tomato soup topped with blue cheese crumbles.
